Better Jobs in School, Education Wise.

      The question is, how can schools do a better job keeping students engaged and excited about their education? I think there is one, and one reason only in keeping students excited and engaged in school, and that is technology. Technology is what students are based on these days and what keeps them occupied. I  have noticed that if students are just sitting in class then they are fairly bored, but if the teacher says ok, now we are going to library to work on this class assignment on the computer, then students i think become much more interested and pumped up, and that does show more motivation for students to do there work. I feel as though technology is the reason for getting kids more interested as technology is used in every day lives, and if that is the case then schools should be teaching students about education purposes on the computer. Teaching students technology will get them ready for there future as technology will become much more needed and more advanced.  
        Next year every student in bhs will receive a ipad tablet. By receiving this tablet i think students will be much more interested and interactive and in return see much less slacking. I think this tablet will be a great idea for students as eventually most education should and will be based off of the ipad as it will be more convenient to students as we love to type and use the computer. I think most schools see a lot of bad conduct out of students due to the fact that they just sit there and listen to a teacher talk all day, and take notes so kids gain energy due to relaxation and board um, and therefore if giving the privilege to do more things on the ipad then students loose there energy and become more awake and therefore will allow them to do there work. I think also typing notes on the ipad will be huge, as it will be more fun to take the notes, therefore students will take more notes instead of putting a couple of words down. Taking more notes will allow students to do better on test and quizzes and get better grades, as they will pay attention more. I think the ipads are going to be huge, as bhs is the first school in Massachusetts to get the ipad tablet.
         I think by giving the students ipads that it will improve grades and conducts in schools. I believe that if we are using technology that every student loves then grades will improve dramatically. I believe this because  students will pay attention more because education and technology are combined. I feel students will take more notes and distractions will be less, due to the fact that they are typing there notes from the class lesson. If students take more notes then grades will improve on test and quizzes and that it will make our school systems look better. I also feel that conduct grades will also improve as students wont feel the need to interrupt the classes and to get up and wander the halls as much. I think this because if they are distracted by the ipad and the learning on the ipad then they wont feel the need to get up. I think the ipad is a good new start to education and i think students will fall in love with it as we need a change in our education, as we have had the same education system for a while now, so get out the old and bring in the new!

ipads next year

The question is should students be able to download anything they want next year or should the school control it? Now personally i think that if we give students the privilege to download anything then they should be responsible and download educational apps and games, not apps inappropriate. I think we should be able to download anything we want because if we are in class and we need a app a teacher recommends then we wont be able to download it. I think that the teachers should trust us to use the ipads for only educational purposes and let us use them and not control or see what we do on the ipad, i think that students should respect the fact we have the ipads and use that privilege right, and not mess it up so they loose that privilege.

Homework debates

In the state of new jersey parents are complaining that students are getting homework on the weekend. They are planning to abolish it completely. They say that they work hard enough during the week that they should get a break on the weekend for the child health, rest and Well-being. They say homework over the weekend leaves to less family time and it makes students get more tired therefore loose interest more quicker. They say homework makes students not exercise therefore leading to obesity. if they teachers didn't give so much homework then there would be more time for after school activities. If we support this problem then it will lead to less health issues in students.

Wheres summer?

A lot of people have been complaining this spring hasn't been the best, its been a little cooler than normal and its been above average on the rain. The nights have also been very cool, and even the days in some cases last week we only reached 53 for a high when the normal high is 63. So the question is, where is summer? Well there has been a big block in the jet stream forcing the warm air to stay south and keeping the some what cool weather in new England or north. Now if normal high is 63 and we have been reaching 70 recently, then what am i talking about, right? Well last year we already have had a number of 80 plus days and even a 90 degree day and those were the signs that summer is on its way. But so far this year we have had one 80 degree day the rest have been in the lower to upper 60s to around 70. The other issue is that north to northeast wind. That effects the immediate coast and the cape and the islands, what happens is the northeast wind comes off of that cold oceanic water, which by the way is only 43 degrees, so any wind coming off of those waters are going to make the coast significantly cooler. So you could have it be 70 here in Burlington but on cape Ann or lets say Beverly it would only be 55 to 60 degrees so about a 20 to 25 degree difference which is pretty cool. There has also been this stalled ocean storm for that past 4 days stalled in the middle of the Atlantic but since its stalled and just sitting in the middle of the ocean, and since it is a massive storm it has been throwing  a lot of clouds and in some cases showers, and in another case on Saturday when we had those severe thunderstorms, which some included hail. Once that stall in the jet stream gives way we should start to see summer arrive. No one knows when that will happen, but until then be patient, summer will be here soon!

What an incredible and devastated sight on the tornadoes in the mid sections of the country stretching from the gulf to the Canadian border, in fact it has been the biggest outbreak since 1974 with double the death toll already for the whole year for the number of deaths that people usually die from a tornado. Usually tornadoes last on the ground for about 20 to 30 minutes but these super cells have been so big that these tornadoes have been on the ground causing destruction for more than 2 hours, the cells or tornadoes don't weaken until they get farthest away from the gulf. Some of these storms have been so severe they caused a vertex tornado which is two tornados in one or two tornados side by side each other creating a 2 mile radius which is a huge tornado, most likely characterized as an ef-5 tornado. You see the gulf has a lot of moisture and any little rain shower that runs into the gulf moisture is going to ignite and fire up a huge outbreak of tornadoes. We already know that though scientist say and that is true, that is normal for the typical tornado alley, and that is the question why have these tornadoes been the biggest out break since 1974 with more than 300 people dead? Scientist still don't know and they are still doing a lot of research what they do know is that it has been a huge outbreak and what they still don't know is why. They have one clue of what it could be and that is global warming. That does make sense with dew point temperatures running to 70 degrees which is oppressive and the strong jet stream, plus the gulf moisture it is the perfect ingredients to cause severe weather. The gulf moisture has played a major role in weather the past 6 to 8 months first with the bad winter we had which by the way we topped off with 81 inches of snow for the whole winter which is double what we normally get and that is because of the Greenland block which forced the jet stream to dip to the gulf then the storm would gain moisture travel up the eastern seaboard and slam us with snow. Now the Greenland block has given way, so that is not causing it. Now scientist think with the stalled front on top of the Midwest and the gulf moisture that would definitely cause this severe outbreak. What happens is you get these stalled very weak frontal systems that bring light showers but what happens is when the front is stalled the showers never go away the front is always producing showers so the showers would run into the gulf moisture, then comes the dew points or the humid air, then the jet stream and there is the answer to the severe weather, but that is not the 100 percent answer scientist say they need to find the exact cause and find out if these severe outbreaks will last into the summer. If that is the case, scientists say we need to figure out a way we can prepare people or evacuate people so death tolls cannot be as high.

App for that!!!

The app that I would think would be my favorite Is the app called flip it. I would choose this app because this app is very conveinent for the iPad. This app contains as many pages as you would like, and it can include anything you would like, whether it's facebook or twitter. I like this particular app due to the fact that you don't have to go on the Internet and search for facebook and twitter you can simply go on the app and all your information is there without the hassle of searching. You can flip threw the pages and all your preferences are right there. If you ever choose to get the iPad I would highly advise you to choose the flip it app!

Digital Footprints

Students are taught that digital footprints are just trails for bullies and sexual predators.  Scare tactics for digital footprints have a effect on student behavior, and the schools don't teach the students on the bad things that can happen involved with footprints. Such as an approach to Internet safety for the more targeted students online. The goods in computers are that, the computer can be used for a lot of good educational purposes, whether its talking to there friends about the school work. Students who see the computer as a good way of learning is unlikely, and if we try it, it is very risky, and is hard to see how students will handle it. It is also likely that if we let students try it, they say it is an encouragement to Digital Footprints and that would let them effect there true emotions on the Digital Footprints. I think that only a few percent use digital footprints as a bad source and that the teachers should trust us students more to be able to use computers in school and give us a chance to show that we are more mature than they think.

For my outline i will want to find pictures around bhs and describe them as if i were giving a tour of the school, as if they were new here and wanted to get familiar with the school, as if they needed to know there place around. As if i were describing what each part of the school looks like. My 6 to 10 pictures would just be a tour, a brochure of bhs.

iPad set to replace restaurant menus and reduce staff

Ipads are set to replace staff and menus in restaurants.  Restaurants have decided to come up with the idea to use ipads as menus so customers can look and order there food right there at the table without a waiter, that will reduce jobs at the restaurants. The first restaurant to do this will be in southern California in May with two more restaurants to follow. The ipad will sit on the table in a case therefore allowing customers to look at the menu, pick what they want, and also pick what toppings you will want on your burgers, salads, and pizzas. They can select what type of meat and buns they will want by clicking and dragging on the ipad. When people are done choosing what they want there will be a screen that shows what everyone has ordered. The ipads also allow access to pay for your meal right there at your table. They say they were going to use laptops as the ipads haven’t came out yet when they were thinking of the idea so once the ipads came out they said it was a major breakthrough. They don’t want to make or call the restaurant the ipad restaurant they want it to be a normal restaurant just with the high tech way of ipads as their menus. They say if anyone would decide to steal the ipad at the table it has an alarm system that will go off as soon as it is located outside of the store the sound makes a similar sound as if someone was stealing something from a regular store. They say the ipads are also being used in different situations such as in New York plazas like concierge experience as well as in grand central terminals, used as a cash register. They say that as these ideas come to mind that the ipads will become more widespread in these specific situations.  

Meteorology

Meteorology is the science of the atmosphere and it comes from the Greek word meteoron which means something that happens in the sky. The Greeks are the ones that first discovered it as they studied the sun, the clouds, the rain, and the wind and how they might relate with each other. The weather was important in regular society back then because it helped the farmers grow and harvest crops and help them to make money. They say these days due to the fact that the weather plays a major affect on society that the weather is more important and that more detailed information would have to be done. They also say that the atmospheres have been changing more since the past and that it is capable of making more changes therefore making weather an inconvenience and more severe to daily lives. Aristotle is considered the father of meteorology. His book was the first book ever written on the study of meteorology. However as said in his book the only study of the atmosphere that they could study is the wind, rainfall and direction for quit sometime. As years went on scientist started discovering that clouds, wind and rain are caused by large weather systems that grow and change as they move across the earth. These days it all depends on the temperature, the terrain and the pressures and also how much energy it gets, to see what type of storm your state will get and that can change because all around the world, weather is different because there is a different season in each Hampshire. The barometer which measures air pressure and the thermometer which measures temperature finally came out in 1600 ad. When the telegraph was invented it allowed weather reports to be sent around to people which made a very good convenience to farmers. As time went on meteorologist finally got the laws of physics together and assumed these systems would move, and they also looked at the pressure and temperatures to see if it would be rain and snow and what different places would get rain and snow.  In world war 2 the weather was very much needed as the pilots needed clear skies and very sunny conditions to fly. As they got into war world 2 they discovered the radar, which helped them track the thunderstorms and to figure out where they would be going. The Greek philosophers finally started observing the sky and inventing new tools of meteorology, and those tools are very important to our daily lives so as the years go on more tools will get invented and it will help the world and the people living in it a better place.

facebook information

I agree and disagree on some of the stuff we can and shouldn't put on facebook.    I  think it will be okay to put your birth date and where you got born on facebook i don't think its that personal in my opinion i think that will be OK. Your mothers maiden name would also be OK i don't think anything dangerous could happen if you put that on there the only thing that could happen is someone you knew a while back would recognize you but i don't think that it is that big of a deal. Your home address definitely not put on there because someone could find where you live and maybe do some kind of vandalism. I also don't think it is a good idea to put when you are away or when your coming home from a vacation due to the fact that someone could say lets rob from this house before they come home like i don't think people need to know when your coming home just maybe I'm on vacation and maybe even that is to much because if they know your away they know your house is empty. Your short trips away from home are OK i mean there not needed but if you wanted to say them i don't think it would be a big threat. Inappropriate photos are also not needed because someone can find something embarrassing about you and then it can ruin your reputation, also they are not needed. Maybe secrets are also not needed and definitely if you don't want anyone to know about them because people can find something they don't know about you and then bully you in the end. Your phone number i don't think will be good to put on facebook because people can stock you wont stop calling you and even prank call you. Vacation countdown is also not needed because again it tells people how much longer the house will be empty. Your child's name probably not a good idea because if they know that kid and they same that's your kid they might do something to hurt them if they don't like them or if they don't like you then hurt them on purpose to get you back. Risky behavior  probably is OK as long if its nothing illegal or stupid. The layout of your home probably not because it shows people what your home looks like and if they find something that they like they might want to steal it. Your profile doesn't really matter as long if there is nothing you don't want anyone to know about.

simple as...

When you are trying to learn something knew and don't know who to ask or how to learn it then the Internet is the way to go. Its as simple as that all you need to do is look up on the Internet what you want to learn and it gives you the ansere without the hassle of finding who to ask. The Internet is a big help and is used all around the world. For example in the video the lap top teaches the student how to play the piano not the piano teacher, its that easy that goes to show how easy it is, next thing you know shes playing don't stop believing by journey with out a tutor and without practice. The other example that they showed is that this kid learned all about filming with the help of the computer and he didn't take one class on how to do it. He learned and did it himself without the help of anyone just the computer.... i think you get the point! Point is  now he is doing filming everywhere, he even did some filming on some patriots practices. So never let your hopes up because the computer is always there to help.

The Super Moon

This past weekend specifically on Saturday night 20 minutes after sunset the moon came closest to the earth that is has been in 18 years. It was 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter. This only occurs every 18 to 20 years so I said I need to see this, so I went out and bought a telescope. From my house it was hard to see due to the fact of the trees and that it was pretty low in the sky at that time but it was also the biggest at the time so I had to see it. I live near an elementary school that has a big parking lot so I said to myself lets go up to the school and see if I can get a clear view. So I arrived at the school and the view was amazing no tress just open sky and the big ol super moon. By the way I wasn’t the only person with the idea there were about 5 more people with the same idea up there looking at the moon. So I took out my telescope and it took me about 5 minutes to set a good position of the telescope so I could see the whole moon. Finally I got a good position and I looked into it and it was just this huge big bright circle, it looked like the sun but after my eyes adjusted to the light I could see the whole thing including those gray blobs on the moon, those shadows, they are not craters if that what you’re thinking because I saw a crater after my eyes really adjusted and it’s just a circle on the moon and its not gray, you need a telescope in order to see the craters. The other fortunate part about the night was the weather. Thankfully it was a clear night so you could see the brightness and size of it. Later that night, I looked in my backyard when the moon was high in the sky and it lit up my whole yard, like I said it was as if the sun was out. It was definitely a sight to see, almost an indescribable sight. I look forward to seeing the next super moon in 18 to 20 years, even though it’s a long time it will come up quick!

Japan Earthquake

A devastating earthquake hit Japan on March 11, 2011 the other day and some say it was as worse at hurricane Katrina.  It was an 8.9 earthquake biggest quake that has ever hit Japan. The quake caused buildings to collapse people to be trapped under buildings not found, death toll is still rising as more people are still being found. Then after the earthquake was done, it caused tsunamis to be caused and they traveled from Japan to Hawaii and the coast of California damaging those coast but Japan got the worst of it. The tsunamis caused building to collapse and people to be washed up and drowned and  debris and cars to be taused around like paper, those people that have drowned got washed up on sure as the water is starting to retreat a devastating 1,000 got washed up on sure. The earthquake lasted 5 minutes as buildings and structures just got destroyed right into to the ground. After shocks were just at worse with 403 aftershocks as big as a 7.7 earthquake which is a huge quake in common and Japan got 8.9, the aftershocks were as big as the Haiti earthquake if not bigger. The death toll keeps rising and the clean up continues as buildings collapsing, landslides, tsunamis, and aftershocks just destroyed the country of Japan. People are helping all around the word including the U.S as not just Japan needs the help but nearby coast that got destroyed by the strong and at some 33 foot high tsunamis. Also due to the water and the power of the tsunami the electrical plants are starting to explode causing more death and destruction. There is a long way to go with the clean up and those people still fighting for their lives as they got no shelter, food, and or water. This earthquake will never be forgotten, due to the devastation it has caused!

Social Media

I think that all schools should be using social media. Using paper and writing is getting way to over rated these days, and if that's the case then why not use social media in school. When you use paper when you could use the computer it is a waste of paper and it can be used to save our environment. Why not change the way the school systems work while communication these days are getting replaced by social media therefore changes must be done. Kids and almost everyone in the world loves to use the computers then if that's the case we need to use them more in school, to make learning more fun and so kids will actually want to learn using the computers. A lot of mailing is getting replaced by mail so in that case we should change communication into social media and replace it with emailing. You know how much paper we waste a day on mailing? A lot, and that can all be replaced by emailing so we can save on paper save the environment and save on pollution and recycling, to save our planet, and stop global warming. The second link that i have shared with you talks about the way they are going to bring social Media into schools and the ups and downs of having them. The good part about having them is sites like twitter,face book, and YouTube should all be included into the district because all people use them and they should be brought into schools. The down sides that they are having to them is that they say if they give kids the responsibility for using these websites they aren't going to be able to handle it and everything it going to turn into a mess. In my opinion I think that's wrong i think they should give it a try because they don't know what the outcome is going to be because they haven't tried it yet, you cant not try something when you don't know what the outcome will be. So in my opinion social media should come to schools so we can change the way schools and the world works because if we go the opposite way the world is turning then the world stops, and everything will become a mess.  

Glogster

The tool I have chosen to talk about is glogster. I have chosen this tool because I have used this tool in my English class before to create a poster on Romeo and Juliet. I didn’t know what glogster was until my English teacher mentioned it. When they said I had to create a poster online I was like how would we ever be able to create a poster online, but when we did it on glogster I liked it a lot. When I first heard that we had to create a poster I was like oh no, another poster, but working with glogster really made making a poster interesting. What glogster is, is an online website that allows you to make a poster, paper, glue, construction paper, markers, and any other items you would use to make a poster are not needed. That’s the whole catch of it, it is a fun way to make a poster, you can make it colorful, put a lot of pictures on it, and you can pick different designed bubble captions to include your captions, you can also move your captions in a special way to make them sideways and other way to make it fun and creative. It is also a good way to get a good grade on a poster that you did on a computer! The other thing is you are saving paper and materials because all of it is online. When you are all done making your poster it will be so colorful and so creative that there wont be one white space on the page, and it will just pop out at your teacher and you will definitely get a good grade on it, you need to make sure your information is right first before you pass it in because they do grade you on that too. I would strongly recommend this website to students, for them to go give it a try, because I can guarantee they will not be disappointed.

ipad 2

The Ipad 2 is thinner, faster, lighter, and has two cameras one in the back and one in the front so you could do some chats like skyping. The Ipad 2 comes on sale march 11th and it is expected to make double the sales than the original one. The new ipad features 1ghz, and a A5 Dual core professor. It also has up to 1080p video out support video hdmi, a 9.7 inch screen with a 1024-by-768 resolution, 10 hours of battery life, It also has a atat and Verizon option to see which server you would like to use. It is also expected to be double times as fast. Apple is not excepting pre-orders as of right now for the ipad 2 due to the fact that it is coming out in over a week. They say if you are expecting to but an ipad 2 on that day expect long lines at stores, due to the fact that it goes on sale at 5pm local time on march 11. The ipad is also expected to be 33 percent thinner, and 15 percent lighter. They say if you want to buy the ipad 2 on that day it may be more convenient to go to third-party stores like best buy and walmart, those kinds of stores. They say they are not sure if the ipads will be available on march 11th at atat and Verizon. They also say as of right now apple is only available at apple stores and apple websites. They said the ipad 2 is on sale for $500, but they put the original ipad on for $100 for more sales on that if people still want the ipad 1. I cant wait to use the ipad 2 next year!

Facebook Generation

I think we need to try and limit students and teachers from being friends on Facebook. I think that students and teachers should have there own privacy because if teachers become friends with students then students get into teachers lives and that could possibly cause problems in school in terms of grading and learning. If a teacher or students finds something surprising about the person they are friends with then it could cause problems like bullying and or if there a teacher grading on a student, like if a teacher reads something about a student that he or she doesn't like then they will be like this kid did this so I'm going to give him or her this grade, so teachers are there for one reason and that is to teach not to be Friends with the student, and if students become friends with a teacher and it effects there education then it is also effecting there future, and we need to find away to ban teachers and students from becoming friends with each other.

Ipads Passed to Higher Education

We wanted to use the ipads for school next year, and now colleges want to also use them, if colleges want to use them, the most advanced type of learning, then that means these ipads will probably be a good thing for our school, in terms of learning. I mean if colleges want to use them then they must be making these ipads more advanced for learning not just for a mini computer, they are very convenient too because they are small and easy to carry around. According to the college evaluation for these ipads the ipad reached its test for keeping up with the lightning fast paste of college so in that case they have been using them more often for learning. Studies show after examining the ipads for the 2010 semester 1 that the kindle was not that good of use after all and they much rather use the ipads due to the faster pace it can keep up with and the fact that the ipad can do anything the kindle can and more, so its a computer and a kindle in one which is very convenient. They said the most beneficial feature on the ipad is the sensitive fast touch of the touch scroll because it was so fast you are able to keep up with the class discussions during class, and research and look at things while your professor is  talking, so you can keep up with your professor, the same thing will be beneficial next year for us at the high school, in my opinion. Another beneficial  feature on the ipad is the highlighting of important information, and files that interest you, students say it is easier to highlight on the ipad than it is on paper, and printing is also easier because you highlight what you want to print whether its a file or just some important notes from class, and then you simply press print, students say its very beneficial in class. They said that there were also some down sides and that researching something on the web is a little slow, which made it a little difficult to research, but students say it was still fast enough to keep researching in class. Research also shows that the all touch keyboard is difficult to deal with when you want to take fast long notes but they said it is mostly good for short slow notes, the other down side is that it is very complicated to download apps and software's so they said you can do that on your own lap top, but it doesn't need to be done on the ipad, the ipad is mainly for learning and school. Other than some glitches in the ipad students love the ipad and got very attached to it using it for mainly school and studies. Some schools did not wait for the testing and right away got the ipads, but the money was the main issue, buying ipads for every student in schools in Arizona what not affordable, so what they did is bought 39 ipads and put them all in a ipad lab and students and teachers could us them when ever they wanted, but in my opinion that's a waste of buying 39 ipads and should just wait until you can afford them. Apple says that they are familiar with this unique software on the ipads and eventually want to make them more convenient and affordable for classrooms everywhere, so students will have a better and more efficient way of studying in class. I think that the technology these days is very advanced, and that every school and every student should have some kind of device for studying in class for the more fun, and different way of learning! 

banning cellphones

I'm not just saying this because I'm a student but you need to have some kind of communication outside of school with your parent or guardian, either for pick up after school or sports because if you need a ride somewhere after school or you figured out in school that you have a sporting event then you need to contact a parent or guardian somehow, and if you ever need to stay after for extra help one day but you forgot or didn't know until you got in school, you need to contact a parent or guardian. I also think it is okay to text your friends in between classes just to say hey, or maybe if you need something or forgot a book in your locker, and you can tell them to meet you somewhere and they can hand you a book. I read about it in this link i gave you and 100 students got suspended last semester in a school in Connecticut, now tell me that is not strict, i mean it is understandable if they were using it in class but not out of class, and even if they were using it in class then don't suspend them just give them a detention. So in my opinion don't ban cell phones, just ban them in class, by setting some ground rules, kids will hopefully become more responsible by following the rules and by giving them this privilege.

superbowl

I watched the whole Superbowl yesterday and the game was good because at first green bay was blowing out the stealer's but then in the second half the stealer's started coming back and that's when the game got very suspenseful. GB was always in the lead but in the middle of the fourth quarter is when it really started to get close. GB won and that's who was favored to win, and i wanted GB to win the whole time too,  so I'm happy for them. I liked the half time show for the whole setup of it the lights the dancing but i dint like the singing there really wasn't any singing in my in my opinion which caused the reviews to be bad if you want to have dancing involved and a good show to be preformed i think you need to have singing that is good for people to enjoy, modern day singing not singing that people are going to hate and the turn off the show and then loose all of your reviews.
